امام ابن تیمیہ کے افکار و تصنیفات کا ایک تعارفی جائزہ
Abstract
Ibn Taymiyyah (1263-1328 CE), a towering figure in Islamic scholarship, left an enduring legacy. He championed a return to Islam's core principles, advocating for a strict interpretation of monotheism. Practices that even hinted at polytheism, like veneration of saints' tombs, found no place in his vision of Islam. He believed Islamic practice should be built solely on the foundations of the Quran and Prophet Muhammad's teachings. Innovations, or "bid'ah" as they are called, were unwelcome unless explicitly mentioned in these sources.Reason, however, held value in Ibn Taymiyyah's thought. He didn't reject it entirely, but believed it should never contradict the clear messages of scripture. Faith and reason, in his view, were meant to complement each other. His vision extended beyond theology. He advocated for just rulers who strictly enforced Islamic law, but also championed the right of citizens to challenge unjust authority. Notably, his approach to economics allowed for more flexibility within the framework of Islamic law, fostering a more dynamic economic environment. Ibn Taymiyyah's emphasis on returning to Islam's pristine form and his critical approach to established practices were controversial in his time. He challenged the status quo and didn't shy away from expressing his views. However, his influence on later reform movements and scholars is undeniable. His legacy continues to shape Islamic thought and practice even today.
