Abstract

The study of Urdu short stories reveals a significant theme of protest, rooted in the contradictions of political and social systems. This theme reflects the shattered dreams of a healthy life and a bright future that were associated with pre-independence aspirations. The post-independence era has brought profound societal changes, leading to mental turmoil, loneliness, and fear among individuals. While these changes have created instability and uncertainty, they have also prompted a new understanding of societal issues and progress. The concept of rural life has transformed, with many individuals transitioning to urban struggles. The constant challenges of urban life have alienated individuals, stripping them of their sense of stability and security. This evolving situation has notably influenced our society and literature, particularly visible in the works of contemporary short story writers.
