Abstract

This study explores the exegetical perspectives and interpretive trends of Maulana Hussain Ali with particular emphasis on his approach to nazm al-Qur’an (Qur’anic coherence). As a prominent exegete, Maulana Hussain Ali highlighted the thematic interconnection of Qur’anic verses and surahs, seeking to present the Qur’an as a unified discourse rather than a fragmented collection of injunctions. His methodology reflects a balance between classical tafsīr traditions and modern interpretive demands, drawing on linguistic precision, contextual analysis, and theological insight. The paper examines the principles he adopted, including the primacy of coherence in meaning, the interrelation of Makkan and Madinan revelations, the contextual unity of surahs, and the ethical-spiritual objectives underlying Qur’anic discourse. By analyzing his exegetical contributions, this research underscores Maulana Hussain Ali’s role in advancing a systematic understanding of Qur’anic coherence and situates his work within the broader trajectory of Qur’anic studies in the modern era.
