A Thematic Study of Rashida Qazi’s Short Stories

Abstract

Rashida Qazi is a representative fiction writer of South Punjab. The central theme of her short stories is woman, and her narratives embody a unique blend of feminine consciousness and social awareness. Her stories are not merely a form of creative expression; rather, they are a cultural and intellectual record of their time, which, on the canvas of history, highlight the existence of woman, her struggles, and her dreams in a dignified manner. The characters in her stories possess psychological depth, and through their dialogues, they reflect the truthfulness and authenticity of life. In her three short story collections, the most prominent feature is the awareness of feminine identity. She does not portray woman merely as a figure of suffering; instead, she presents her as a courageous, conscious, and intellectually awakened being. For her, femininity is not a claim to gender superiority; rather, it is a symbol of Eastern cultural consciousness and human dignity.
